Sunny Days!

Take a look around! Thanks to the abundance of rain lately, plants and grasses are thriving in our area. But, sunny days are coming, so you’ll need to be prepared to water your lawn and plants more often to keep them healthy.

This year, you probably haven’t even had to use your irrigation system. However, in order to keep your lawn and landscaping looking beautiful, you will need to keep up the watering when the rain becomes less frequent. If you do not have a sprinkler system, consider having drip irrigation installed. It is a less expensive alternative to installing a traditional automatic irrigation system. Drip irrigation is just as effective as an automatic system, while using much less water.

An environmentally friendly way to water your lawn and plants is by rain water harvesting. Rain harvesting methods include rain barrels and underground harvesting systems. These methods will allow you to reuse rain water, ultimately lowering your water bill. Call Landscape Outfitters today for more information on rain harvesting systems.

Now is also a great time to install or replace existing landscaping lighting. The right lighting can give a wonderful ambience to your outdoor space. If you’ll be entertaining outdoors, landscaping lighting will allow you to continue the party even when the sun goes down. Also, a well-lit home is a deterrent to crime. Most older systems use 20 or 35 watt bulbs. If this is what your current system uses, consider installing new LED lights. They use 4.5 or 8.5 watt bulbs, saving you money on your electric bill. You can view some examples of LED landscape lighting on the website. Contact Landscape Outfitters for a landscape lighting demonstration.

Tips for June

1) When watering your grass and plants, water before 8a.m. Watering early allows the moisture to soak in before it is absorbed by the sun.
2) Prune dead blooms from perennials to promote new growth.
3) Inspect plants for insect damage, and treat them as needed.
4) If you are thinking about adding a tree to your outdoor space, consider a Crape Myrtle. It will bloom beautifully all summer long.
